NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS? NOT ME.

Angelina Jolie once said “People say that you’re going the wrong way when it’s simply a way of your own.” She is not my favorite actor. She DID lure Brad Pitt into her bed, but her statement matches my thoughts when people ask me about my New Year’s resolutions.

I don’t make resolutions. Why set myself up to fail? My doctor and my dentist keep my health on course. I work hard to spend our income wisely while striving to save a little money. I work from home so changing jobs will not improve my life. I am a writer. I am a soon-to-be published writer and I enjoy what I do. I spent over twenty-two years working in retail. I spent another 8+ years as a well-educated, highly stressed 9-1-1 emergency medical operator. I love helping people which is why I keep looking for avenues where I can volunteer my services while still taking care of family.

The year 2010 is upon us. All I can do is strive to do the best I can. I invite folks to read an excerpt of my soon-to-be-released book, ‘SECRET LOVE MATCH’.  (available sometime in 2010 from Red Rose Publishing) at www.nancylennea.com.  I have posted excerpts of my two Scottish paranormals (unsold as of this posting) on www.nancyleebadger.com

I hope some of my readers find time to make and follow New Year’s resolutions if doing so makes you happy. Remember, do it FOR YOU.

With love, Nancy Lee Badger

IMPULSE INITIATIVE by Abigail Reynolds

A Pride and Prejudice Variation, is how Miss Reynolds describes her novel. That alone got me to read it! As a long-suffering fan of the A&E movie, and a small fan (though still I-bought-the-DVD) of the Kiera Knightly version, I brought the book home and began to read. If you are familiar with the Colin Firth version (yummy!), you will be able to understand how this author takes the story from the moment Elizabeth refuses Mr. Darcy’s proposal and says to her readers…What if Mr. Darcy tries to change her mind?

I was deeply enthralled in this new adaptation from the first chapter, and wondered how she could possibly write a more satisfying ending. I always appreciate how she used his cousin, Fitzwilliam. In fact, there are more than kisses between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, waylaid marriage plans, tense moments with her uncle and her father, and so much more. She sprinkles quotes, familiar to me from the big screen, and follows the flow of the story. Lots of action…and sex…and, most of all, a deep and growing love between two of my most favorite characters.

‘Impulse Initiative’ was published in 2008 by Sourcebooks. Nancy Lee Badger

Never Argue with a Woman Who READS!

One morning, the husband returns the boat to their lakeside
cottage after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap.
Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat
 out.

She motors out a short distance, anchors, puts her feet up,

And begins to read her book.

The peace and solitude are magnificent.Along comes a Fish and Game Warden in his boat.

He pulls up alongside the woman and says, ‘Good morning, Ma’am. What are you doing?’

‘Reading a book,’ she replies, (thinking, ‘Isn’t that obvious?’)

‘You’re in a Restricted Fishing Area,’ he informs her.
‘I’m sorry, officer, but I’m not fishing. I’m reading.’

‘Yes, but I see you have all the equipment.

For all I know you could start at any moment.

I’ll have to take you in and write you up.’

‘If you do that, I’ll have to charge you with sexual assault,’ says the woman.

‘But I haven’t even touched you,’ says the Game Warden.

‘That’s true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment.’

‘Have a nice day ma’am,’ and he left.

MORAL:     Never argue with a woman who reads.

It’s likely she can also think. This was sent to me by my Aunt Honey Costa…thanks

POSITIVE QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Faith and doubt are both needed-not as antagonists,

but working side by side-to take us around the unknown curve.

-Lillian Smith, writer and social critic

I believe this mimics my feelings this week

as I wait upon agents and editors. I hate to

wait. I am eager to show the world what I

have to offer, when I can finally shout out

“HERE I AM”.

ANGELS & DEMONS PINEAPPLE CAKE

This recipe is easy as pie, decadent as the richest dessert, yet low in calories. Using a simple boxed cake mix and a can of fruit, this cake will bring a smile to everyone and satisfy your sweet tooth.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Take 1 box of ANGEL FOOD CAKE MIX and 1 can of DOLE CRUSHED PINEAPPLE. (Do NOT follow box instructions)

Mix together by spoon in a large bowl. Spray an Angel Food pan (best) or Bundt pan (second best) with nonstick spray. Place pan onto a cookie sheet (to catch drips) and bake for 45 minutes.

Cool well, upend it onto a platter, and enjoy! Invite a few angels or satisfy a few demons, but make sure YOU SHARE THIS! Nancy Lee Badger
