Our story follows Harriet, Duchess of Berrow, who is bored with her life in regency England. Responsibilities cling to her title. She is sick of tea parties and balls. When her friend Isodore asks, she decides to help her create a scandal.
Lord Justinian Strange is famous for his parties attended by rouges, rotters, and ladies of dubious propriety. What does he think when he recognizes Harriet as one of his guests? Especially, since she arrived dressed as a young nobleman looking for sex?
Ms. James’ stories all pull us through history to spy on the comings and goings of the regency’s most notorious rakes, lords, and ladies amid deception, intrigue, a touch of comedy, and hot sex. I love her books and have added several to my personal bookshelf. Be forewarned, romance and true love save the day!
‘Duchess by Night’ was published in 2008 by AVON BOOKS, an imprint of Harper Collins.

Wow! Just finished this. A great example of sensual historicals. Her use of history and the behind-doors life of the nobels is wonderful.

Duchess By Night is really my cup of tea, as it were. Imagine, in the prim and proper days of Regency England, a young woman dressed as a man! And going out in public, no less. It’s clever and it’s funny. And if you like this period (and really, who doesn’t?) then you’ll love this one.
